One of the questions people often ask me is, “what do we call you?” Yes, I have a Ph.D. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary but I am not persistent on the use of the title it offers me. Yes, I am the Senior Pastor of a fabulous church, First Baptist Conyers, Georgia, but realizing I have never had a biological brother the term “Brother Jeff” is still a bit foreign even after 19 years of ministry. The majority of the fine people with FBCC and our community address me as “Pastor Jeff.”
So, who am I? Simply put I am Jeff, only Traci, my wife, and my mom have permission to use “Jeffrey.” If you so choose to place “Dr.,” “Brother,” or “Pastor” in front of my name, that is your discretion and freedom; however, I will rarely if ever refer to myself on these pages with a title.
There are three “F’s” that describe me: faith, family, First Baptist. Initially, all of who I am, all I do, and everything I write and propose on this blog will be filtered through my undying faith in Jesus Christ as my, and the only, savior and Lord. This faith is grounded in the Bible as the Inerrant and Infallible word of God; therefore its usage is second nature not just for “pomp and circumstance.”
Secondly, the Lord has blessed me with the finest wife one could ever imagine — Traci. She not only is our (myself and our three sons, Marshall (7), George (5), and J.J. (3) and the dog, Daisy) domestic engineer, but serves as the referee, chef, arbitrator, and human resource developer of our home. Additionally, she is one of the greatest Bible teachers around; ladies, you can attend her Bible study on Tuesday mornings beginning at 9:30 in the Children’s worship building at FBCC.
Finally, there is the church of and the people of First Baptist Church in Conyers, Georgia. I may be a Texan by birth and upbringing, but the people and the church of FBCC have my heart. The Lord allowed my family and I to begin serving here 1/1/2008. Over the last two years we have walked through the pages of scripture together and seen the Lord grow us numerically as well as spiritually. If you are in the Metro Atlanta area (particularly the East side) then come see us. We “are open every Sunday.”
If you live outside the Atlanta area you can be apart of our services each Friday at 8:30pm on New Life FM, 90.7 in the Atlanta area or you can stream the radiocast at www.newlife.fm
