Ok, the past few days have been a bit “heavy” on my mind. FBCC hosted our annual Men’s Conference with Danny Akin, President of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, who preached 4 times. Additionally, I am preparing for a sermon series entitled “Subtle.” This next series will cover Ephesians 6:10-17 in detail. Spiritual warfare — not the lightest of subjects. More regarding this in the days to come.
Now for the fun. The following video is one of the Meyers’ family’s favorite:
Questions answered:
1. Where did you find this?: my former Student Minister in Mississippi
2. Are you making fun of these individuals?: absolutely not, number 1 — I have no musical talent, number 2 — I have never been on a live “morning show,” — number 3, I think the song, not the people, is hysterical. Sometimes the best theology does not come from a textbook.
3. Who are these people?: This song aired on The Mornin’ Show, a local program carried by NBC affiliate WTVA in Tupelo, Mississippi. The following data is from Tom Joyners website. The lady singer was interviewed on his March 13, 2009 show. In the clip, Minister Cleo Clariet and his fiancé Katherine Lane are shown singing on “The Kay Bain Show” in Tupelo, Mississippi in May or June of 2004. Clariet passed away from congenital heart disease on Dec. 13, 2004. Lane said he would have been thrilled to know his song is now entertaining so many people.
4. Have you actually eaten all of the suggested items?: No, I’ve had every kind of cereal and most of the “traditional” food but have never had “sugar and rice,” “porkchops,” or “beef stew” for breakfast.
5. What is the theology behind this post?: As the video says, when we have been “reborn” we are assured one day that the “Lord will call us home” (1 Thes. 4:13-18; 1 Cor. 15:51-55; John 14:1-6, etc). Additionally, none of us knows when the “hour will be,” but we should be prepared (Luke 12:13-21). Finally, when a believer in Jesus Christ is “called home” there is no need of the “necessities” of this life anymore (Rev. 21-22).
6. Will you be singing this song the rest of the day?: Absolutely!
7. What was the point in this post?: Sit back and laugh for a few minutes — a serious series of posts is right around the corner.
